Why I Pray in Muslin, Not Linen: A Nursing Mum’s Ruku Test

Image
People ask: "Why not 100% linen for summer prayer?" I own 2 beautiful 100% linen dresses that I bought during vacation. I love them.  But here’s why I don’t pray in them: My linen dresses have buttons. I wear them outside because I’m nursing. Buttons = easy access when I’m out with baby. My muslin prayer dresses have no buttons. I can’t nurse in them when I’m outside. So they stay home.  But for prayer? Muslin wins. Why? 1. Speed : Baby is crying, it’s Maghrib time. I can pull a muslin dress over my head in 3 seconds. No buttons to open, close, fix. I’m in prayer before baby gets upset. 2. Ruku Test : No buttons = no gaping when I bow. No adjusting. No worry "is something showing?" I just pray. 3. Khushu : With linen, I think about buttons in ruku. "Is it closed?" With muslin, I forget I’m wearing it. I think about Allah. So I have a system:  Linen with buttons = outside, nursing-friendly, coffee with sisters.  Muslin no buttons = home, prayer-ready, 3-sec...

Summer Prayer Outfits for Nursing Mums: No Sweat, No Fuss

Image
It’s 32°C. Dhuhr time. Baby is fussy.   Your abaya sticks to you. You’re adjusting in ruku. Khushu? Gone. I’ve been there. Here’s what I wear now - tested at 30°C+ with a nursing baby. My Summer Rules - Ruku Test Approved: 1. Fabric = Breathable + Practical Muslin = My prayer uniform.  My muslin dresses are single-layer, loose cut. Light enough for heat. I wear them at home because there are no buttons. 3 seconds on, no fuss in ruku. I don’t nurse in them outside - no access. Viscose = My nursing backup.  My black blouse is viscose. Drapes away from skin when I sweat. No cling. Buttons = I can nurse when I’m out at the park in 35°C. Linen?  I own 2 linen dresses. I love them. But I don’t pray in them because of the buttons. In ruku I’m thinking "is a button open?" instead of Allah. So: linen = outside errands. Muslin = prayer. 2. Color = Heat + Life Strategy Beige Hijab  = Reflects sun. My head stays cooler vs black. Jersey fabric = no pins, no pearl clip...

The Ruku Test: Why I Only Wear Loose Abayas

Image
I was tired of adjusting my abaya in ruku.  Every prayer I thought about my clothes, not Allah. So I started testing: Which fabric stays loose? Which cut passes the bend test? Which color isn't see-through in sunlight? ☀️ LayeredModesty shares what works. Loose linen abayas. Prayer-ready. Practical for real muslimah life. No thin fabric. No clinging. No adjusting mid-prayer. If it fails the ruku test, I don't post it. This is for sisters who want to focus in prayer, not adjust their clothes.🧕🏼 See more loose abaya tests on Pinterest: LayeredModesty 🤍
